AMERICAN HEARTLAND ICE ARENA SKATING ACADEMY

Zooming around on the ice is a fantastic way to embrace winter and get some exercise at the same time.  Skating is a lifelong activity that provides many positive benefits.  So why not learn how to skate?

The Heartland Skating Academy offers multiple programs for people with a desire to master the skill of ice skating.  We have developed a world-class program that provides all participants a positive atmosphere to achieve their goals, whether they are to simply learn to ice skate for fun, or to become a hockey player/figure skater.

Our instructional staff are trained professionals with a passion for ice sports.  Their infectious attitude will give beginners a needed comfort level to succeed, while keeping each class fun and rewarding.

Skating Academy Program Benefits:
  • All class sessions are with a professional coach
  • 15 minute supervised practice sessions included in cost
  • Controlled student to teacher ratio
  • Parent Discount: Parents of registered students may take an Adult class at 50% off
  • Every registered participant receives a complimentary pass to attend STICK & PUCK and PUBLIC SKATE sessions for the duration of the class. ($125 Value)

  • Skate rental available at the rink
  • Classes with less than 8 students may be combined​
Make-Up Classes:
  • Missed classes may be made up during any remaining class for your level. 
  • No prior notification is necessary. 
  • Please check-in door when you arrive. 
  • Make-ups must be made during the current session in which they were missed.

  • Take 2 Classes and Save 25% on 2nd fee. Each class has to be taken by same child

SNOWPLOW SAM 1 thru 4 [AGES 3 -5 ]

Snowplow Sam is an introductory class designed for children ages 3 -5 with no prior skating experience to build confidence while learning the basic skills of skating.  These classes are designed to help children develop the ABCs of movement – Agility, Balance, Coordination and speed.

All classes are taught by incorporating the introduction and development of skills through professional instruction in a fun, safe and positive environment.

BASIC 1 (Pre-Alpha) [AGES 6 TO 14]

Basic 1 is an introductory class for children between the ages 6 through 12 with little to no prior skating experience.
​These levels teach the fundamentals of skating and provide the best foundation for figure skating and hockey.

​BASIC 2 thru 6 (ALPHA, BETA, GAMMA & DELTA)

Skaters will learn and master forward and backward skating, stops, edges, crossovers and turns throughout these levels. These levels are the fundamentals for skaters to advance to spins and jumps.

Basic 2 – Participant must have passed Basic 1
Basic 3/ Alpha – Participant must have passed Basic 2 level (formally Pre-Alpha)
Basic 4/ Beta – Participant must have passed Basic 3/ Alpha level
Basic 5/ Gamma – Participant must have passed Basic 4/ Beta level
Basic 6/ Delta – Participant must have passed Basic 5/ Gamma level

Theater Team and Skills Class[AGES 6 TO 12]

Showcase fuses artistic creativity with figure skating for small ensembles and production numbers. Showcase groups use props, backdrops, costumes and creativity to bring a story to live on the ice.

​This program is offered 2x a week to work on developing skills in addition to skating with the team. Those who are able to attend practice both days are encouraged to do so.

All skaters will participate in the Ice Academy Invitational Competition on June 7, 2020.

Pre-FREE SKATE
FREE SKATE 1 and up 
[AGES 6 TO 12]

The Freestyle levels introduce skaters to jumps, spins and advanced beginner skating skills and transitions that figure skaters use when they compete.  Professional instructors break down each skill and teach the skaters the foundation of proper jump and spin technique, as well as strong skating and edge skills in a safe and educational group setting.
  • Must have passed Basic 6/Delta level.

Adult Basics 1-4 [AGES 15 & OLDER]

​Heartland Skating Academy offers Teen/Adult skating classes as a part of our programming.  The Adult class is “at your own pace” and is perfect for beginners, continuing adult skaters or skaters who are returning to the ice after years of hiatus. 

This program is 50% off for parents that have children signed up in another program. Parents that have a child sign up please sign up at the rink to receive your 50% discount.
